Fair Time is here again!

The Independence County Fair will kick off a week of festivities beginning with Tuesday July 20 and concluding Saturday July 24.

New and fun activities for everyone will be taking place. Applications for the beauty contests, photogenic contests, and the youth talent contest are now available on line. Entry forms for all contests are available upon request at WRD Entertainment, Batesville Daily Guard, the fair website and A Formal Affair. All beauty pageant contestants from the ages of six months through twenty – one years are encouraged to enter. New awards and cash prizes have been implemented this year for the Miss Independence County Contest by Citizen’s Bank and First Community Bank. UACCB is also offering a full-tuition scholarship, which may be utilized in fall, spring and summer terms. In addition, any male or female, ages 55 and older are invited to participate in the Mr. and Ms. Senior Independence County Contests.

All youth, ages 10-20 years are encouraged to enter the Youth Talent Show. The Fair Association will be awarding trophies and medallions to first place winners of each talent division, as well as medallions and ribbons to the second place winners.

Cash prizes of $25 will be awarded to first place winners in the categories of vocal solo, dance solo, instrumental solo, and variety divisions with $50 going to first place winners in the categories of dance group and vocal group. All rules, regulations, applications, information and contact persons are located on the fair website, www.icfair.com or available at the previously mentioned businesses. Entry forms must be received by July 13 for all contests. A $20 entry fee is required for all beauty contests ages six months through twenty-one years, a $10 entry fee for photogenic contests and a $10 entry fee for the youth talent show. Senior Citizen’s Day will kick off on Friday morning July 23. At 10:00, festivities will begin with the Mr. and Ms. Senior Independence County Contests. In addition, there will be a pie contest for anyone 55 or older who wishes to participate. Entry forms may be found on the website, the local Senior Citizens Center or filled out the morning of the contest. The contest will take place at 10:00 at the Entertainment Pavilion. In addition, there will be a horseshoe-pitching contest for anyone 55 or older. Registration for both contests will take place at the pavilion from 9:00 -10:00 that morning. Door prizes will be given away, free health screenings by Medicine Shoppe, selected carnival rides, dancing and music are some of the other fun events occurring. All buildings and barns will be open for anyone to visit during this day. Admission is free. The Independence Senior Citizen’s Center will also be having lunch and the tickets may be purchased that morning at the pavilion by 10:00 as well.
